2008 Telstra Art Awards


Muk Muk Aboriginal Art congratulates Makinti Napanangka the winner of this year’s 25th Silver Jubilee Telstra Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art award. Muk Muk Aboriginal Art has worked with Makinti for a numbers of years and proudly stock works by this leading artist.

Makinti is from Kintore approximately 530kms north west of Alice Springs in Central Australia.  The winning painting depicts designs associated with the site of “Lupulnga”, a rockhole situated south of the Kintore Community.

This award held in Darwin each year recognises the important contribution made by Indigenous artists to the art world and has come be regarded as one of the premier national events in the Australian Indigenous art calendar.

The award, run by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, has a $40,000 top prize and was  judged this year  indigenous artist Judy Watson from Queensland and Hetti Perkins, senior curator of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art at the Art Gallery of NSW.
